Solving Gearbox Overheating for Continuous Production at a Plastics Moulding Company
The Challenge
A plastics moulding company was experiencing significant production delays due to an overheating gearbox. The existing cooling loop was failing to provide adequate cooling, which led to the need for regular moulder shutdowns to prevent further overheating. This recurring issue created substantial inefficiencies, as the moulder had to be stopped frequently, resulting in considerable downtime.

Cross Rental Services Solution
To address the cooling challenge, we decided to isolate the moulder from the main cooling loop and implement a dedicated, stand-alone 30kW chiller system. This bespoke solution included an integral pump, tank, and bypass, providing the moulder with a reliable and consistent supply of on-demand chilled water.
By establishing an independent cooling system tailored specifically for the gearbox, we were able to ensure that the moulder would operate at the required temperature levels, eliminating the dependency on the inadequate existing cooling loop.
The Outcome
The installation of the stand-alone chiller system has been a game-changer for the company, enabling the moulder to run continuously, 24/7. This solution has completely removed the previous bottleneck in the production process, turning what was once a major hindrance to productivity into a streamlined operation.
