The Challenge
A large NHS-run hospital required a resilient, high-capacity temporary heating and hot water solution to maintain essential services during major maintenance works and periods of system stress. The facility needed support across multiple areas, including temporary heating, steam generation for de-steaming operations, and reliable DHW provision to several wards. Any temporary systems had to be fuel-managed, fully resilient, and capable of integrating seamlessly with the existing district heating network to protect continuity of patient care.

Cross Rental Services delivered a comprehensive package of temporary heating and hot water assets to support the hospital’s operations:
High-Capacity Boiler Deployment:
Supplied a fleet of oil-fired boilers ranging from 300 kW to 2 MW, all installed with N+1 redundancy for resilience and fully fuel-managed to ensure uninterrupted performance.Heat Dump Setup:
Provided and installed a dedicated heat dump arrangement to support safe and efficient system balancing.Steam Capability for De-steaming:
Delivered 2 × 8-tonne steam boilers enabling the hospital to de-steam critical systems safely and proceed with planned maintenance works.DHW & Heating Support via PHEX:
Installed multiple DHW plate heat exchangers (PHEX) and heat exchangers connected directly to the district heating system, enabling reliable heating and hot water supply to several wards.
