Optimising Cooling Systems for Enhanced Production at a Midlands Plastics Manufacturer
The Challenge
The factory had been relying on its onsite adiabatic coolers to maintain the low temperatures required by the internal Erema systems, which are critical for the production process. However, the coolers were no longer performing to the required standards, failing to achieve the necessary cooling levels. As a result, the factory’s production rates were significantly affected, with processes slowing down and the potential for costly downtime.
Given the ongoing impact on productivity and the risk to operational efficiency, a long-term, reliable solution was urgently needed to restore the factory to its required operational levels and meet production targets.
Cross Rental Services Solution
We strategically utilised the existing adiabatic pipework infrastructure to resolve the cooling issue, which provided a solid foundation for an upgraded cooling system. We installed two 500kW chillers, each complete with integral tanks and pump sets, delivering a total cooling capacity of 1MW at a consistent 7°C. This bespoke solution provided a highly effective and efficient means of cooling, fully restoring the factory’s cooling system to its optimal functionality.
By utilising the existing infrastructure and installing the new chillers, we were able to minimise downtime and ensure seamless integration with the existing systems.
The Outcome
As part of our ongoing service offering, the site benefits from regular servicing and maintenance to ensure the cooling system continues to perform at its best. The installation of the new chillers has not only resolved the immediate cooling issue but has also resulted in a significant improvement in production capacity. In fact, the factory now operates at production levels far higher than those achieved prior to the chiller installation, with enhanced efficiency and reliability.
